Techno-Economic Analysis of Integrated Micro-Utility Systems
The integrated micro-utility concept revolves around utilizing waste streams in cyclic integrated processes to generate renewable energy. For example, cow manure can be sent through anaerobic digestion to produce methane gas which can be combusted to generate electricity to power milking equipment or refrigerate dairy products.
Commissioned by Factor[e] Ventures, we have constructed high-fidelity system engineering models to quantify mass and energy flows through various micro-utility configurations. Obtaining a thorough understanding of system efficiencies and functionality has proved to be crucial in understanding the economic performance of these novel integrated systems.
